As reported by BGR.in, Apple is set to launch the iPhone 5 in India on Friday, October 26. It is widely believed that Malaysia will be launching the new phone on the same date as well, assuming there is sufficient stock.

Supplies of the iPhone 5 have been tight since its launch on September 12 and its subsequent availability in nine countries a week later. Apple sold 5 million units of the much-anticipated phone in the first weekend of sales, the fastest selling iPhone in history.

Apple made the iPhone 5 available in 22 more countries a week later. The Cupertino company has announced that it intends to make the iPhone 5 available in at least 100 countries by end of the year.

Industry analysts predict Apple selling 100-150 million units of iPhone 5 in the first year.

The launch date in Malaysia on Friday, October 26 is a Muslim public holiday and this may or may not affect the date eventually.

Speaking to a local iPhone 5 case manufacturer earlier this week, while the representative was careful not to reveal the actual date, we were hinted to that the date is within that week of October 26.

From the evidence gathered from announcements of nano-SIMs from all major telcos (Maxis, DiGi, Celcom) except for one, the iPhone 5 is expected to be launched by telcos simultaneously, just as the previous iPhone 4/4S were. Apple is also expected to make the iPhone 5 available via its Apple Online Store.
