We’ve known it for a bit, but Apple has just made it crystal clear and official. The iPhone 5 is finally coming to Malaysia on December 14. Expect simultaneous launches by the big telcos Maxis, DiGi and Celcom.

The thinnest and lightest iPhone ever will be available in South Korea on December 7, then in 50 other countries including Malaysia, Brazil, Russia and Taiwan in December.

iPhone 5 is currently available in 47 countries around the world including the US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan and the UK.

Apple recently took to second spot in terms of US market share for smartphones for the first time, behind Samsung.

The availability of the iPhone in many more countries should put it in good position for global sales revenue and market share growth in the coming quarters.

iPhone 5 comes in either black & slate or white & silver for a suggested retail price of $199 (US) for the 16GB model, $299 (US) for the 32GB model and $399 (US) for the 64GB model. iPhone 5 will be available through the Apple Online Store (www.apple.com), Apple’s retail stores and select Apple Authorized Resellers.

iPhone 4S is available for just $99 (US) and iPhone 4 is available for free with a two-year contract from participating carriers.

No official Malaysian pricing as yet, but expect the base model to be circa RM2,200-RM2,500 sans contract. The current iPhone 4S sells at RM1,799.00. Looking at old pricing structure, the iPhone 4S should drop to RM1,499 range once the iPhone 5 hits the shelves. As comparison, our neighbour Singapore sells the 16GB version for S$1,049.00.
