Canon has introduced new additions to its range of entry-level cameras with the EOS 100D, EOS 700D and PowerShot N. The new range brings powerful performance, technological enhancements and fun to photography enthusiasts and the general consumer.

The EOS 100D

EOS 100D – World’s Lightest DSLR
With the EOS 100D, Canon pushes the boundaries of weight on a DSLR. At 370g, the EOS 100D is the lightest DSLR in the world. The compact body measures just 116.8mm x 90.7mm x 69.4mm.

The smaller form factor doesn’t stop the EOS 100D from being a serious performer though. Synonymous with the EOS pedigree, the EOS 100D features a low-noise 18MP APS-C sized CMOS sensor and the famed DIGIC 5 image processor. The combination of the big sensor an advanced image processor brings high sensitivity and high resolution to images, ensuring details are captured even in low light conditions. Additionally, the talented entry-level camera is able to shoot continuously at four frames per second.

The EOS 100D also has Multi Shot Noise Reduction, a feature that is ideal for capturing photos at night. MSNR mode captures four images in quick succession then combines visual data from all four images into one perfectly composited image. If you’re familiar with HDR mode, this is a rather similar process. The result? Better exposed images in low light, better details without noise that is associated with high ISO images.

The Instagram generation would be chuffed with the addition of Creative Filters and other functions including Background Blue Simulation, Scene Intelligent Auto, Silent Shooting mode and Extra Effect shot.

The EOS 100D doesn’t just take stills, but has video capture capabilities built-in. Its Movie Servo AF function is backed by the Hybrid CMOS AF II system which improves quality of moving and panning shots by dynamically focusing on a subject, even when not in the middle of the frame.

The EOS 100D comes with the new EF-S18-55mm F3.5-5.6 IS STM lens that also makes full use of its EOS Movie capabilities.

The EOS 700D

EOS 700D – Top-of-the-Line Entry-Level
Targeted at amateur photographers, the EOS 700D has a 18MP CMOS Sensor with the powerful DIGIC 5 imaging processor. It features a Vari-angle Clear View LCD II monitor with touchscreen controls and 360-degree mode dial.

The EOS 700D offers a wide range of ISO speeds – from 100 to 12800 (expandable to 25600) which brings versatility in different light conditions. The sensitive CMOS together with the DIGIC 5 processor grants the EOS 700D high speed burst shots with continuous shots of 5 frames per second.

The EOS 700D has the distinction of the only two cameras in its class to benefit from the advanced 9-point all cross-type AF system. The only other camera is the EOS 650D). It’s packed with features like the Multi Shot Noise Reduction, Handheld Night Scene, and HDR Backlight Control.

Like the EOS 100D, the EOS 700D also includes Creative Filters like Toy Camera, Fish-eye and Miniature filters. These effects can be live-previewed on the touch-screen LCD.

The EOS 700D is powered by the Hybrid CMOS AF II system and comes with the new EF-S18-55mm F3.5-5.6 IS STM lens. It also features the Movie Servo AF.

The PowerShot N

PowerShot N – Tiny Point-and-Shoot
The PowerShot N is a tiny compact camera with dual shutter buttons at the top and bottom of the zoom-enabled lens ring – perfect for one-handed operations. The Zoom Ring and Shutter Ring along with the 2.8-inch tilt-up LCD touch panel makes it easier for users to capture photographs from extreme angles.

The PowerShot N features a highly sensitive 12.1MP CMOS Sensor with DIGIC 5 processor, and all-new 8x optical zoom lens (extendable up to 16x with ZoomPlus technology). High-speed and low-light photograph quality is assured with the high ISO 6400 speed.

The built-in Creative Shot mode applies six randomised creative filters to a captured photograph. Pre-set creative filters like Fish-eye, Miniature and Toy Camera are also included.

Once photographs are taken, share them to Facebook and YouTube via WiFi, with the one-touch WiFi button. The accompanying free Canon CameraWindow app is available on both iOS and Android.

The great thing about this compact is that it can be charged on a computer or portable power bank with a bundled USB cable.
