After a disastrous rollout of BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) for Android and iOS last month, BlackBerry has officially announced that BBM for Android and iOS will rollout around the globe within a few hours. Consumers will see BBM (ignore the fake apps) in Google Play, Apple App Store and select Samsung App Stores. This is delightful news for those who did not manage to download during the initial rollout or were locked out after installing unofficial .apk files.
One million Android users installed an unofficial, unreleased version of BBM for Android. More than a million users sideloaded BBM on their iPhones.
BlackBerry has detailed a line-up system to ensure a smooth roll out. Here are the details:
- Download BBM – the easiest way is to visit BBM.com from your Android or iPhone browser
- Once you install the app, open it, and enter your email address to hold your spot in line
- BlackBerry will email you as soon as you reach the front of the line and can start using BBM
If you’re one of the six million users who signed up at BBM.com for updates, you’ll be able to use BBM immediately without waiting in line. If you hadn’t signed up in advance, don’t fret, BBM will come to you eventually.
