Kuala Lumpur, 19 November 2103 – WD today introduced the new WD My Cloud EX4, a high-performance four-bay network attached storage (NAS) solution for prosumers, workgroups, creative professionals and individuals looking to save, share, back-up, stream and manage media and digital data. Pricing for a drive-less My Cloud EX4 enclosure is RM1,359, with solutions of up to 16TB costing RM3,999.


Perfect for the SOHO environment, the new personal storage system features the ultra reliable WD Red line of hard drives, up to 4TB each. WD recently launched the WD Red in 4TB capacity. WD Red drives are powered by WD’s famed NASware 2.0 technology, which improves drive reliability and assures data integrity in event of power loss or disruption. Additionally, WD Red hard drives have 3D Active Balance Plus technology to improve overall drive performance and reliability.

Easy tool-free upgradability
WD My Cloud EX4 comes with Easy-Slide-Drive technology, making install or hot-swapping drive easy. As data storage requirements grow, easily upgrade from 8TB, 12TB up to 16TB. Plus, customers can attach a compatible USB 3.0 hard drive to the USB expansion port on the back of the unit for further expansion.

Data protection, done right
WD My Cloud EX4 offers multiple options to secure data from potential loss. WD provides pre-formatted, pre-configured drives in RAID 5 configuration with the four-drive units. Customers have an option to configure the unit with RAID 0, 1, 5, 10 or spanning and JBOD modes.

With WD SmartWare Pro, customers can back up all their PCs and devices easily. Mac users have the option to use all features of Apple Time Machine for backup purposes.

For further redundancy, WD My Cloud EX4 can also backup itself to either another WD My Cloud EX4 in a different location, or to cloud services like Amazon S4 and ElephantDrive.

Furthermore, WD My Cloud EX4 also includes an optional redundant power supply unit (RM69) and ethernet ports.

Streaming and serving
The WD My Cloud EX4 isn’t just a great backup device, it can also serve as a multi-talented digital entertainment hub, streamed to any DLNA/UPnP certified multimedia device such as gaming consoles, Smart TVs and WD TV Live media players.

It is also Twonky 7.2, DLNA-certified 1.5 media server and iTunes server ready.

As if not enough, the NAS has an integrated file server, FTP server, backup server and P2P download server capabilities.

The WD My Cloud EX4 Dashboard not only gives users the ability to monitor system health, manage users and configure energy saving features, but it also lists a suite of third party apps which users can install and use like aMule, Icecast, Joomla!, phpBB, phpMyAdmin and SqueezeCenter.

Access data anywhere
If you’re armed with an iOS or Android device, you’re in luck. Access your data anywhere with the WD My Cloud mobile app (downloadable for free). The app makes filesharing, collaborating easy. The app integrates with most major public cloud services such as DropBox, Sky Drive and Google Drive.
