BlackBerry last week previewed BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 (BES10) v10.2, the latest iteration of their market-leading multi-platform Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) solution. BES10 brings together multi-device management, security, unified communications and applications; and since December last year with v10.2, also available in a cloud version (under trials in Australia). BES is the only device management solution to fully manage BlackBerry OS, as well as Android and iOS devices.

In his opening remarks, Ian Gardner, Enterprise Business Unit Director, Asia Pacific, BlackBerry said, “For us, BES10 Cloud is not a wholesale change from what we’ve been doing with BES10 on-premise, but an extension of services. Many of our customers in the medium-sized space and some large organisations are modernising their IT with the deployment of cloud-based services.”

“Clearly, taking our heritage of what we have on premise and moving it into the cloud really opens up two options – a whole new selection of new customers who may not possess IT skills or expertise; or customers who are looking to change their cost structure of IT, and looking deploy more cloud-based services,” Gardner continued.

The defacto leader in EMM
BlackBerry has long been considered the gold standard in mobile security, earning trust of more than 80,000 enterprise and government customers worldwide. This is four times more than any “pure play” Multi Device Management (MDM) vendors combined. Latest analyst research shows BlackBerry has almost 61% of MDM market share in large enterprises.

The growth of mobile devices and the prevailing Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) and Corporate Owned Privately Enabled (COPE) trends have increased complexity and diversity in the corporate environment. Not too long ago, where the corporate environment used to be centred around deployed BlackBerry devices, it is now a diverse, multi-platform environment that poses myriad challenges to IT administrators.

And this is exactly where BES10 is strategically positioned to meet these market demands. BlackBerry is in a unique position to thrive in this space, where it has enjoyed a leadership position for over a decade.

Finding Balance
One of the key features of BES10 is the ability to securely containerise personal and work spaces. Called BlackBerry Balance, users’ personal and work data and applications are kept separate, and users can easily switch between workspaces with a simple gesture.

The Work Space is a fully encrypted, managed and secured environment. With BES10, Secure Work Space is also available for iOS and Android devices, managed through the BES10 administration console.
