The growing mid-market segment
In the mid-market, Avaya is the number one player with over 1,500 users globally. The key reason behind its success is the fact that it is the only true complete mid-market solutions provider with solutions covering mobility, security, video and networking.

The global IT spend for the mid-market in 2014 is expected to be US$385 billion, where US$50 billion is the addressable market under 5,000 users.

In Malaysia, as part of its expansion, Avaya targets 50-150 users. To date, the company has already converted six big data centres to Avaya.

SME challenges
In his keynote, Hubert Lee, Avaya mid-market expert and Head of Unified Communications and Collaborations and Mid-market, APAC, revealed challenges faced by SMEs today.

One of the key challenges faced by SMEs is competing effectively with bigger enterprises. SMEs generally lack funds, access to technology and sufficient resources as well as challenged in being able to effectively engage with customers and effectively grow the business.

The current IT trends point to an increasing mobile lifestyle where secure ‘bring your own device’ (BYOD), infrastructure optimisation and server virtualisation become vital in an organisation. The fact is that 50% of the workforce today work outside the office. And statistics show that 97.3% of office workers bring personal mobile device to work.

87% of these mobile workers believe that collaboration is crucial for work.

Subsequently, SMEs need to manage IT with limited staff, minimise cost and exposure risk and ensure less complexity in operations.
